Suicide remains the tenth (10th) Leading Cause of death in the united states. according to recent governmental statistics, the legal profession ranks 13th on a list of 22 Professions with the highest suicide rates.
Mental illness is too often perceived as a condition that lawyers bring with them into the workplace. the time has come to look at the workplace itself as not only an exacerbating factor, but a causative factor of mental illness.
Learn why lawyers themselves are such a vulnerable population that is susceptible to mental illness. learn how toxic people and toxic policies are destroying talented and high functioning professionals. most importantly, learn what law firms and individuals can do to stem the tide of mental illness and suicide in our profession.
The American Bar Association and other Professional Organizations have launched initiatives to address this crisis. moreover, the healthy workplace bill has been introduced in over 30 state legislatures and seeks to curb the epidemic of bullying and emotional abuse in the workplace. learn about the bill and its implications to your organization.
